Y-3 has led the way in introducing sports luxe as a trend to the mainstream and have become one of the most important premium sportswear brands on the market in their short history.
When adidas first joined forces with famed Japanese designer Yohji Yamamoto in 2003 it was a boundary breaking collaboration and a bold new step for the German Sportswear giants. With Yohji Yamamoto being the man behind the iconic Y’s brand and something of an icon in his homeland of Japan it was the perfect collaboration to allow Adidas to explore new markets. The Y-3 brand reflects the unity of this marriage with the Y representing Yohji Yamamoto, the 3 representing the signature adidas three stripes and the - signifying the bond between the two.
After the success of the first collaboration the brands have continued to work together and Y-3 is now a massively successful and sought after collection in its own right. The Sprint trainers, Qasa trainers, Boxing trainers and Yohji runs have become staples of the brand and are now some of the most recognised silhouettes around. With each collection the brand explore new concepts while remaining true to their futuristic and boundary breaking heritage.
The clothing collection has inspired some of the most important trends in streetwear over the past decade and is now an integral part of the Y-3 brand. With everyday staples being reinvented and reworked following the brands philosophy with a minimalist and futuristic twist.
15 years since the birth of Y-3 the brand continues to go from strength to strength and the future looks bright. In recent seasons the brand has revisited classic adidas styles such as the Stan Smith while also introducing future classics with the Pureboost and Noci making their first appearance in 2017.
