Established in 2012 Danish brand Rains is a contemporary rainwear lifestyle brand creating waterproof designs for the global citizen. Influenced by its Scandinavian heritage, Rains practices an uncompromising approach to simplicity that is as equally rooted in functionality as it is in relevance. Rains merge traditional methods with innovative techniques to create understated and considered rainwear made to last beyond the season.
The young, fast-growing company is based on the initiative of interpreting the traditional, rubber raincoat in a new and trendy way. The company, with headquarters in Aarhus, central Denmark, has quickly grown into an incredibly popular, international brand of rainwear and is continuing its efforts to improve and further develop its growing collection of rainwear and accessories. Rains are of the opinion that proper rainwear need not come at the cost of considered design.
The niche, Denmark-based rainwear company was founded by Philip Lotko and Daniel Brix Hesselager 8 years ago. The duo met as students at design and business college TEKO in Denmark; Hesselager was studying furniture design and Lotko was studying PR. The label began as a side project to their studies, but it quickly developed into something more. "The concept grew out of a poncho, which we made using a lightweight PU fabric, at that point, we didn't realize that it should be a whole concept, but the idea of merging design and style with an outdoor technical product fascinated us." Hesselager. And from there, they continued developing a full unisex line of outerwear and a collection of bags, all made from the same matte-looking, water resistant and flexible, polyurethane-coated fabric.
Rains is rooted in simplicity, functionality and cool, clean lines. With this PU fabric, they have elevated the classic rubber raincoat and given it a modern facelift via translucent and glossy finishes and more fashionable shapes all while keeping the products lightweight, breathable and weatherproof.
Rains have a strong belief that the functionality has to be at a high level, but the aesthetic and the expression of the product is still most important. In Europe they are seen less as a rainwear label and more of a lifestyle brand, and in the UK markets Rains are considered to be more of a fashion item more so than a functional item.
The rainwear from Rains was also inspired by Scandinavian weather. Rain's collections are produced in an environmentally friendly way and are 50% made up of recycled material. This has resulted in a beautiful collection of rainwear that has a modern, sleek appearance; ideal for sustainable-conscious buyers who want to keep dry.
Most recently Rains dropped their ‘Ultra Light’ series, with the lastest fabric innovation this collection has been developed with the ambition to create a category of rainwear from the lightest of materials, without compromising on performance. Advanced technology and an unyielding persistence have resulted in a fabric with action-packed intelligence. Weightless, windproof, breathable and waterproof – Ultralight is a fabric designed for multiple weather conditions. Silhouettes and trimmings across the collection articulate a ‘sportswear meets utilitarian’ message, complimenting the collection’s functionality in forecasts with or without rain.
