Hikerdelic is where the peak meets the precinct, unifying the two worlds of rambling and raving. Channeling the spirit of Colorado in the 60s, it crosses the streams with late 80s Acid House and finds the perfect position between indoor shopping centres and outdoor pursuits, between outdoor raves and underground caves. Created by Mark Smith and Neil Summers of Proper Mag, Hikerdelic is a Manchester based brand that combines a love for the outdoors lifestyle with high quality, well-designed clothing made to last. Building on a strong range of printed graphic tees and sweats, Hikerdelic has evolved its look and feel to a broader range of products, which look the part whether your estate is country or council. It all started with a tweet back in 2012. Mark made the pun Psychedelic hiking – Hikerdelic. Back then they used it as an umbrella term they used for anything that was a bit mad and outdoorsy. Shortly after the tweet a friend in 'the industry' suggested the pair get the word Hikerdelic trademarked quickly. At first the guys laughed. As if. It was just a throwaway tweet. They used the word more and more until eventually, it became a bit of a thing. In May 2013 things were crawling on rather than moving on. By early 2016, their day job as editors of Proper Magazine was ready to become a full-time thing and the guys felt it was time to take some sort of ownership of Hikerdelic and get a bit more serious about the whole thing. Hikerdelic reflects the duplicity of the creators' upbringing in Stockport. On one side of Stockport there is the Peak District with all the trees and the hills, and on the other, there’s the precincts and car parks and concrete. The boys say that growing up, there were always people wandering about in Berghaus and Sprayway – this really technical outdoors stuff – but it wasn’t always for going out to the hills – a lot of the time it was being worn by scallies on mountain bikes selling weed on the estate. Founder of the brand, Mark, says ‘It’s something you can transpose to other parts of the world too. If you’re in Cardiff or Leeds or Sheffield – you’re in a city, but you’ve got hills nearby.’ It took a short while but Hikerdelic is now a real, living, breathing brand which stands on its own two feet, with seasonal collections and collaborations with brands the boys have loved for ages. A team of five have a hand in the design process, with Mark Smith and Neil Summers taking a lead just as they do with Proper Magazine. Following an inaugural collection for Spring/Summer'19, it has gone from strength to strength, with stockists such as ourselves, Hip, Oi Polloi and End, as well as a growing presence outside of the UK.
