With a history stretching back over 150 years the French mountainwear label Pyrenex should need no introduction. Starting life as a supplier of high quality down filling Pyrenex branched out in the 1970's to begin producing luxury outerwear. The Pyrenex brand was on the arm of many explorers tackling Mount Everest and the Himalayas and has made its way to Xile for Spring Summer '17.
The Pyrenex story begins 1859 in the shadow of the French Pyrenees mountains with the Crabos family. Originally a supplier of Goose and Duck down the family cemented their reputation as a quality supplier run and the business grew over the next century. As the company's reputation grew they expanded to new ventures and in the 1950’s and 60’s the Pyrenex company began producing bedding and sleeping bags using their world famous down.
The Pyrenex brand as we know it now has its roots in the 1960’s when the Crabo’s brothers (great Grandchildren of the Pyrenex founder) moved the down company in a new direction. The brothers teamed up with Louis Audoubert - a renowned mountaineer, filmmaker, photographer & public speaker - to create a range of mountaineering jackets. With Audoubert working as the brands technical advisor and the Pyrenex down being implemented in all the jackets it was not long before the company gained worldwide recognition for their outerwear. Within a decade the Pyrenex brand was on the arm of many of the explorers tackling Everest and the Himalayas.
In the 1980’s the Pyrenex brand made its way from the slopes of Everest to the catwalks and streets. The brands bright colours, glossy fabrics and leather detailing sat perfectly with the eighties style and became a staple for the youth of the time. Pyrenex have remained a family business and is the only European company to integrate all stages of down production to ensure the quality and craftsmanship of each item.
