| A Guide to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 22 |

12.08.22

The Edinburgh Fringe 2022 is happening now! The Scottish capital is home to the world famous festival and our flagship store.

The Edinburgh International Festival was an initiative created to celebrate and enrich European cultural life in the wake of the Second World War. The three-week festival of performing arts takes place in Edinburgh every August. Its story dates back to 1947, when eight theatre groups turned up uninvited to perform at the Edinburgh International Festival.

From the 5-29th of August Edinburgh becomes the centre of the universe when it comes to theatre and the arts etc. you'll be spoilt for choice around the city with 274 venues. In-person shows take place at venues across Edinburgh, with the potential for both indoor and outdoor performances.

VENUES we recommend to check out  : The Pleasance, The Assembly Rooms, Underbelly, The Lady boys of bangkok, George SquareThe Stand Comedy Club and ofcoure The Military Tattoo including late night fireworks and if your lucky a military fly over!

You can also find some gigs in the gardens summer sessions, a decent line up full of the classics, it's not to be missed including: Simply Red, Tom Jones, Simple Minds and Travis.

Get a closer look at the venues to make the most of your festival experience by finding the venue map here.

There's a show for everyone, with 3503 official shows throughout the city. A MONUMENTAL amout of choice without even considering or including the experience of walking around seeing street performers, collecting flyers, eating and drinking. If your looking for something spontaneous visit the half price hut for last minute cheap tickets.

There is plenty of places to eat, drink and shop in between shows! Here's a few of our recomendations!
George Street in the new town is the home of our Flagship Xile store, definitely worth popping in for a nosey and to upgrade that festival fit! A few of our neigbours worth checking out are : Gant, The White Company, Butta Burger (best burgers in town) , Contini and The Hard Rock Cafe. are worth checking out too. The whole of George street comes alive at this time of year, with the roads being closed for the restaurants to pop up some outfdoor seating, with the addition of extra pop up restaurants and venues too. The street has spectacular views of the Castle so its worth it to get that ideal Edinburgh Castle pic!

George Square is the location of the Edinburgh Food Festival. Since its launch in 2014, the food festival has gone from strength to strength, hosting top industry figures such as Carina Contini, Shirley Spear, Tom Lewis, Guy Grieve and Neil Forbes. With plenty of street food options, just round the corner from another Xile favourite Civerinos. Grab a slice of their authenic italian pizza to browse the street acts with.

The latest addition to Edinburgh is the St James Quarter, full of shops, restaurants and even a bowling alley and a cinema, there is plenty of options to keep you entertained!

Or if thats not your scene and you would rather enjoy the weather you can picnic and relax in the meadows or princes street gardens under the backdrop of the castle.
