Scotch & Soda Denim Detailing
When it comes to picking the pair of perfect jeans don’t just focus on the fit as the devil is in the detail and nobody knows this better than Scotch & Soda. The unique touches and subtle nods which are evident on Scotch & Soda jeans set them apart from many other brands who are happy to churn out straight legged, indigo washed denims. While the brand don’t turn their back on the history they are always quick to mix it up when it comes to denim detailing.
One of the key detail features on Scotch & Soda jeans is the embroidered XXX branding to the back pocket. While the Dutch brand change this up with different coloured stitching this is omnipresent on most denims. An obvious tip of the cap to the brands homeland of Amsterdam it is a subtle touch which sets Scotch & Soda denims apart
Branded Donut Closure
The Scotch & Soda detailing goes all the way down to the buttons with each pair feature a branded donut button closure. If your scotch denims are a button closure you will notice each button features a different take on their iconic branding including ‘Amsterdam Blauw’ detailing. The use of Donut buttons first became necessity during wartime rationing but has since grown to become an industry staple.
Cotton Elastane Construction
There was a time where denims had to be 100% raw indigo cotton to meet the approval of denimheads but these times have been and gone. Almost all of the new Scotch & Soda jeans are made with a cotton elastane blend (typically 1-3%) elastane, and this is a big step forward. The addition of a tiny amount of Elastane makes the denims instantly more comfortable with a little added stretch and also lowers the likelihood of the dreaded crotch blowout. By adopting this standard Scotch & Soda have ensured that their denims are perfect for everyday wear and won’t burn out too quickly.
Scotch & Soda Fit Guide
The most popular style from Scotch & Soda is the Ralston Jean and this is a staple throughout the brands collection. With a tapered, regular slim fit the Ralston is the perfect middle man between straight and skinny. Ralston denims feature a normal waist and are the ideal fit for smartening up your outfit. For the latest season the Ralston is available in three fresh washes: Blue Shine, Laundry Service and our personal favourite, the beaten track wash.
For those of you who like something a little more figure hugging check out the Scotch & Soda Skim denim. The skinniest denim in the Scotch & Soda Jean collection this features a low front, zip fly and is constructed from the super comfortable stretch fabrics. The addition of Elastane means these skinnies are insanely weareable and the Skim comes in two washes for the 2017 collection: Jet Set and Ring My Bell.
A relative newcomer to the Scotch & Soda collection is the brands slim fitting Phaidon denim. While the Ralston narrows from the knee down the Phaidon is slightly more slim fitting on the thighs and knees. The addition of elastane to the denim construction means despite the slimmer thighs these are super comfortable and feature a branded button fly. Both of the new Phaidon styles feature 3D detailing throughout and come in two fresh washes; Dutch Courage (see what they did there) and Babosa Blue.
