British outerwear specialist Aquascutum returns to Xile for AW 14 and brings with it a rich and varied history. The brand has been at the forefront of menswear since a prominent Mayfair tailor, John Emary opened his first menswear store in London’s Regent Street. He went on to patent a water repellent textile and founded the brand Aquascutum – named after the Latin for water (aqua) and shield (scutum).
The brand made a huge breakthrough during the First World War, when they designed a coat for the armed forces. The so called trenchcoat became hugely popular due to its waterproof exterior and removable lining. After the war had ended the coat became a style staple and was championed by glamorous movie stars such as Humphrey Bogart and Michael Caine. Fast forward to the modern era and Aquascutum is a byword for luxury and style.
The classic trench is amongst the most sought after items at Xile this winter. This slim fitting, single breasted trench is an iconic design that’s lifted by the use of Aquascutum club check on the collar lining. This exclusive piece is available now for £445.
