The story of Barbour begins all the way back in 1894 with John Barbour. A Scotsman living in the North of England. This brand recognised the working men of the area required a waterproof, hard wearing jacket as the tar coated jackets of the time were poorly made and did not last for a long time in the harsh working conditions. With oil cloth having been recently introduced there was an opportunity to provide lightweight, long lasting waterproof jackets and Barbour as a brand was born.

Barbour quickly developed a reputation as a manufacturer of quality British jackets and the business boomed while remaining true to their original statement and remaining a family run company. In 1936 a side range, Barbour International was introduced which produced motorcycle jackets and became an instant hit. The brand was so successful that Barbour International was worn by every British motorcycle team between 1936 and 1977 and the brand gained even more attention when sported by the effortlessly cool Steve McQueen in 1964. This moment in time became a cornerstone of the brand and in 2011 the brand introduced their first Steve McQueen collection to pay tribute to the actor.

During their 120-year history, Barbour has become an iconic British fashion brand, evolving from the countryside to the catwalk. Their signature waxed and quilted jackets have been awarded three royal warrants and the black and gold International branding are instantly recognisable.  Some of the jackets which feature prominently in the collection have been in production since the early 1900’s and continue to receive minor adjustments to remain relevant and fashionable. The Bedale Jacket, Lockseam Jacket, Duke Jacket and Drag Jacket are some of the most iconic and recognisable silhouettes from the Barbour Jacket collection and effortlessly showcase the brands blend of contemporary styling and classic detailing.

Ove the past few years Barbour have been collabortating with some of our favourite brands. They have collaborated with New York-based contemporary fashion label Engineered Garments, with a collection influenced by American sportswear, outdoor clothing and military uniform, which has a blend of classic Americana with Japanese aesthetics, with a British Barbour twist.

More recently they have joined forces with Norse Projects, a contemporary clothing brand based in Copenhagen. Known best for bringing streetwear, classic workwear and high-end fashion together. As well as a collaboration with Saturdays NYC international lifestyle brand synonymous with high-quality craftsmanship, a minimalist ethos, and classic style.

A constantly evolving brand the latest collection is not limited to waxed and quilted jackets. The new releases include Barbour sweats, shirtst-shirts and accessories and are the epitome of British style.
