Founded in 1999, Alife is a streetwear and culture brand and retailer of men's clothing, sneakers, footwear, and art based out of New York City. With an aesthetic that promises quality goods, quality projects, quality people. No bullshit. It is a New York experience that translates into all that they do.
Alife pride themselves on being a multi-tasking, multi-faceted, lifestyle driven company. Well known for its curatorial work, branded product, experiential retail concepts, art exhibitions, top-tier co-branded collaborations as well as live music events.
They came across the name while looking through an old Lenny Kravitz album. Although Artificial Life had proven to be too long for the various applications that they were being faced with so the name was shortened to Alife. Alife we believed, was the description of the top of the food-chain in terms of anything that it touched.
Alife was a project that was created by Rob Cristofaro, Arnaud Delecolle, Tony Arcabascio and Tammy Brainard. It was created to fill a void of creativity in New York at the time. It was built to share a very niche, creative lifestyle with a broader audience.
They were four individuals each with specific specialties – formed like Voltron and making things happen. Their lives were put into building what they believed in. Alife later spawned into a clothing brand but originally it started as a creative workshop. The primary motivation for starting the company was to spread their love of product, art, lifestyle and quality to whomever wanted to come for the ride.
Alife gave birth to a new era of independent retailers which became a distribution channel that allowed lots of young brands to have a place to sell their goods. The model was often imitated but never duplicated. Alife is a New York-centric brand with deep roots in the New York underground.
After a slight hiatus Alife is back and ready for action. Focused on art and creativity with a strong penchant for originality, Alife’s mission is to showcase, elevate and perpetuate the downtown culture from which it was born. Alife cannot be defined by one cultural movement alone. Alife is art. Alife is a curator of all that downtown represents and speaks to an international downtown audience that is as close as down the block and as far as across the globe.
